Common name:  Santa Cruz Island Ironwood or Fern Leaf Ironwood

Special notes:  This handsome evergreen tree with its shaggy bark and creamy flowers offers interest all year round. Fern-like leaves are reminiscent of marihuana plants.  It does drop leaves year-round, so requires some maintenance in a tidy garden.  Protect from deer for the first 5 years.
