Common name: Chatham Island Nīkau Palm
                                               
Special Notes: The Nīkau Palm is endemic to New Zealand, and is the only palm found on the island. This form is from Chatham Island. A very distinctive palm, it has a stiff, upright leaf arrangement (feather duster-like). Grows to about 30' in height and has a very pronounced bulge at the base of the crowns. This is the southernmost naturally occurring palm in the world. Best protected from high winds.
